Blood's attack on FFF's New London provided Sentinels with their first system battle since leaving GOI. For most, this was their first battle in over a year, and for several, their first taste of uber-lag.
In a battle which could have potentially involved up to three capital ships, Blood's leader, our old adversary Rockstar, graciously agreed to a no-caps ruling. The start of the battle was chaotic, with server police demanding line formations, docking, undocking, smiling for the camera, slience, speak to me and server-cop-says-jump routines. Although annoying, most of us took this in good grace, accepting this was their first time at this sort of thing, and they obviously wanted to do their best. Some time-warp phenomenon had unfortunately also wiped out part of our fleet, throwing further chaos into the mix.
Once underway, we formed on TBK to be led to several empty co-ordinates before eventually meeting our enemies. This 10 vs 10 fight (actually 9vs10 for the first round, as Iikami was a late arrival) was the largest many of us had ever fought in, and with so many ships weaving about, friendly fire was inevitable. Unfortunately, mid battle, further chaos struck. There was confusion over whether bots and bats had been allowed. As server police demanded responses from certain individuals, they were shot down while replying. As numbers began to favour the Blood squad, they were able to double up on the remaining Sentinels still flying and quickly mop them up.
Having removed all bats and bots, the squad formed up once more on TBK and moved out. Maybe a little more cautious this time, the second round was a closer fight, but Blood prevailed once more. With so much heavy fighting, it was difficult determining who had scored kills - maybe pilots can make claims later. As usual my score card read a fat zero.
Although a loss in our first battle is disappointing (even the Death Knights won their first one), there are many lessons to be learned.
Good fights, and my thanks to everyone who was involved.
